Maybe My Verses Ain’t That Free

Posted on November 18, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

It feels like there’s no room left for poetry in my life these days. I’ve been living too long as a responsible adult — working long hours, paying my bills on time, and falling asleep earlier than I often plan to because I’m just so damned tired most nights of the week. The potential for…

All Work and No Paintball Makes KZ Insufferable

Posted on September 28, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

Like I said in my previous post, I injured my hamstring while playing paintball recently, and now I’m stuck with a bum leg and a wicked limp for the next month and a half. Tonight while sorting my laundry, I pulled my paintball jersey out of the pile of clean clothing, and I put it…

Shuffle & Groan

Posted on September 27, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

Last Saturday, I drove out to one of my favorite paintball fields to run a few drills, and to fit in a few practice games in preparation for an upcoming paintball tournament on October 1st. Like an idiot, I went out and played hard without stretching properly, and I ended up pulling my hamstring. If…

A Plea to Distant Memory

Posted on August 31, 2011February 22, 2022 by KZ

Remember me, friends, long after my final breath, and ages since the day when my dim light once faded. Remember me whenever you begin to believe that you are breathing in vain. Breathing is a matter of belief in things to come — a belief that the world will carry forward and remain a place…

Feminism vs. Femininity

Posted on July 6, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

Remember how I was telling you before about the merits of daydreaming during a boring conversation with your girlfriend? Today was one of those days when I had no choice but to space out during one of Diana’s endless rants about the hot summer weather. Diana had started off by complaining about the heat, but…

Things That Probably Only Bother Me

Posted on June 24, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

I might have only recently turned thirty years old this year back in the month of May, but I was a crotchety old man who was confused by the world long before I grew up to become the lame, overweight, khaki-wearing accountant who stands before you today. Although I’ve never been shy about voicing my…

A Special Birthday Greeting for a Special Lady

Posted on May 24, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

Monday the 23rd was Diana’s birthday. Every year, she tells me not to get her flowers because she thinks they’re impractical and needlessly expensive, but I decided this year to pick her up a modest, reasonably priced bouquet. In addition to that, I also picked up two birthday cards for Diana. Actually, to be more…

Bearing Witness (Conversation with God Continued)

Posted on May 17, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

KEVIN: All I’m saying is, miracles aren’t as spectacular as they used to be. Back then, virgins and sterile old women got pregnant; an entire sea split apart so that the Israelites could escape the Egyptians; and hell, dead people were even resurrected. That all supposedly happened over two thousand years ago. And, I might add, the only ones who were around to witness these events were the kind of people who stoned adulterers to death. Are you telling me those ignorant antiques made reliable witnesses to biblical miracles?

Considerations for Your Parting Words

Posted on May 10, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

Have you ever given much thought to what your final words might be? I think about that subject a little more often than I probably should. It’s not as though I find myself overly preoccupied with death lately. I just happen to be suffering through an obnoxious obsession with significance. Am I the only one…

Begone, Ye Scurvy Blahs!

Posted on April 14, 2011October 11, 2022 by KZ

So you remember that case of the blahs I was telling you about a while ago? I think we can consider that a thing of the past. I just got promoted at work this afternoon, and this weekend, I’m going to Disneyland. Booyah. By the way, if you happen to be a burglar or a…

Seconds had meant a lot to Bill Door, because he'd had a limited supply. They meant nothing at all to Death, who'd never had any. He left the sleeping house, mounted up, and rode away. The journey took an instant that would have taken mere light three hundred million years, but Death travels inside that space where Time has no meaning. Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.~Terry PratchettSource: Reaper Man
