The internet is a huge bathroom wall, and any halfwit with a keyboard and a connection has an opportunity to scrawl on it. Take me, for instance. My name is KZ. For a good time, come find me at Prosaic Shades of Gray.

Perspective is part of it. I don't think that keeping yourself entertained is a waste of time. Isn't entertainment itself the very basis of culture. What are we without culture? Dull and boring.

The other part is irrational fear. The olde timey fears of starvation or death from the wild used to be very real. In modern times, we are easily able to nourish (maybe over nourish is better lol) ourselves and for the most part are generally safe. I think we replaced these fears with the irrational fears, such as the fear of failure and/or success.

To defeat these, all you can do is try and find the source of these fears and figure out why you have these beliefs. If you can understand why you have the belief, which can only be discovered for yourself, then you can find the (environmental) proof that the belief is irrational or a contradiction and move past it.

For instance, giving yourself definable goals for your novel will motivate you to continue on the path. Goals are funny things. If you make them too easy, you’ll get bored, since there is no challenge. If you make them too hard, you’ll never get the end. Your goal is to write a novel and maybe that’s more than you can chew. Maybe you should break it down into smaller goals. Give yourself time frames to complete each chapter.

I'm rambling, so I’ll just end this now. :P
